According to the Department of Energy document below, in 2004 the U.S. 
generated 3979 billion kilowatt hours of electricity.  Mexico was 242 
and Canada 572.   All of South America was 881.

Consumption in the U.S. was 3716 billion kilowatt hours of 
electricity.   We are consuming the most, obviously, but also have had a 
surplus for years.  A surplus greater than all of Mexico's generation, 
period.
