Heh, of course you can politely ask.  And as much as I agree with you, particularly about Trump, it damages _us_ as a whole to avoid talking about such messes.  As Marcus lays out nicely and has been pointed out variously across time (e.g. "the only thing necessary for evil to exist is for good people to remain silent").  We must talk about it.  To avoid talking about it is tantamount to condoning the messy state.

Plus, as things like AI rise, it's our obligation (those of us who know some little bits about AI) to place the political mess in that context.  What does it mean to have a tech-illiterate in control of our country?  What does it mean when a tech-illiterate cites a narcissist techy like Assange? ... and takes advice from another narcissist like Thiel? ... and a globalist like Tillerson? ... etc.

These tech-centric issues are inside our wheelhouse.  Further, this sort of topic is right in line with "applied complexity", one of the supposed foci of the list.  When you're over-loaded, just hit the delete key.  We all get over-loaded sometimes and have to unplug for awhile.
