The physics engines in these packages are not so different from computational physics applications.  Just lower resolution -- gamers don’t need to have their player’s bullets travel at realistic speed or deform on impact.   In some ways the game engines are more sophisticated in that they have GPU acceleration.   If you want to know if two agents in an epidemiological simulation touched on a subway, you can describe the subway and the riders, and the whole thing.
