The companies’ joint effort to build a system that would enable iPhones and
Android phones to recognize each other won’t help in efforts to track
coronavirus cases because the tech giants refuse to share location data
with public health agencies, officials said. That restriction has forced
local health officials to scrap hopes that the Google-Apple collaboration
could help with contact tracing.
