[FRIAM] Can current AI beat humans at doing science?

It must have been more than 30 something years ago.  In 1967 I took a
course in cognitive psychology at Carnegie Mellon in which we studied
Bacon, Logic Theorist, and GPS (General Problem Solver).  The course was
usually taught by Simon but he was on sabbatical.  The text was Computers
and Thought by Feigenbaum and Feldman.
