<p>Without looking it up anywhere but my associative memory of
experiences/anecdotes, I remember my mother uttering this line
dramatically, appending "... the Shadow knows!" which she then
explained was the intro line to an old radio serial, possibly from
the 30's or 40's. I suppose, that this was a reference to
something yet earlier... what with "all art is derivative"?</p>
