Hitchhiking is a necessity on the reservation. It was quite hard to balance humanity with personal safety. It has always been my practice to give rides to anyone I see on the reservation. Those soliciting rides were always masked and had hand sanitizer that they used before getting in, and chem-wipes for the seat and anything they might have touched while in the truck.<br></div><div style="font-family:Arial;"><br></div><div style="font-family:Arial;">Still think about whether or not I was reckless or reasonable. You will point out how "notional" the hazard is, and I will have to admit that I actually have no first-hand experience with the disease, what-so-ever. I don't even know anybody, personally, who has told me that they <b><i>know anybody</i></b> who has had the disease. It is still, for me, a media event. A cultural meme.
