<div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr">Hello Cathy,<br><br>Thank you for reaching out! And Jon Witsell, too. <br><br>Yes, the news of Carl's passing has hit our FRIAM community hard. We've had many in person conversations. And here are a few postings online about Carl's passing:<br> <a href="https://redfish.com/pipermail/friam_redfish.com/2024-September/thread.html" target="_blank">https://redfish.com/pipermail/friam_redfish.com/2024-September/thread.html</a><br><br>I've been going over the archives back to 2003-2017 of Carl's posts (the post 2017 messages are on the site above but alas, not searchable):<br> <a href="http://friam.383.s1.nabble.com/template/NamlServlet.jtp?macro=search_page&node=471366&query=tollander" target="_blank">http://friam.383.s1.nabble.com/template/NamlServlet.jtp?macro=search_page&node=471366&query=tollander</a><br><br>It's comforting for me to reread them and imagine him narrating in his voice.<br><br>I worked with Carl closely at BiosGroup 2000-2002 especially on the Honda Project where we were evolving the future shapes of cars with genetic algorithms. Carl was a great mentor and friend to me. In hiring employees, you may have heard of the "Airport Test" which asks if you would be excited to be stuck in an airport with this person as flights get rescheduled. This has happened more than once for me with Carl as we traveled together and he is the metric I use of someone that was so great to pass the time with - he always had an interesting perspective, insight and story.<br><br>Yes, I will be at his celebration of Life and will advertise it with his colleagues. I am CC'ing the FRIAM list here as well.<br><br><blockquote style="margin:0px 0px 0px 40px;border:none;padding:0px"><p style="word-break:break-word;box-sizing:border-box;border-width:0px;border-style:solid;margin:0px;color:rgb(26,32,44);font-family:__Nunito_0b2dcc,__Nunito_Fallback_0b2dcc;font-size:16px;text-align:justify">Carl J Tollander</p><p style="word-break:break-word;box-sizing:border-box;border-width:0px;border-style:solid;margin:0px;color:rgb(26,32,44);font-family:__Nunito_0b2dcc,__Nunito_Fallback_0b2dcc;font-size:16px;text-align:justify">July 16,1950 to August 25, 2024</p><p style="word-break:break-word;box-sizing:border-box;border-width:0px;border-style:solid;margin:0px;color:rgb(26,32,44);font-family:__Nunito_0b2dcc,__Nunito_Fallback_0b2dcc;font-size:16px;text-align:justify">On August 25, 2024, we lost our beloved Sensei, Carl Tollander following a courageous battle with cancer.
