I was reminded of the value of wire/fiber last Friday when the highway was shut down near Cuyamungue after an accident.   Hundreds of cars filled the City of Gold parking lot and the surrounding area of Pojoaque for four hours or more.  Of course everyone used their smartphone to report the situation, and the coverage just stopped completely.  No phone, no texting, no internet, nothing.   Maybe if we leave 5G up to the telcos we can expect that kind of load planning.

I think John Brown, from ABQ, proposed doing something similar in Santa Fe more than five years ago, but of course the City Council didn't understand what he was talking about.
