Merry Christmas, I ordered a copy of this with some leftover gift card:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/the-shadowy-spirits-that-helped-advance-science/2020/12/23/6995cec8-35b0-11eb-b59c-adb7153d10c2_story.html

It appears to be a thematic history of science concerning the imagining of
non-existent entities and arguing their hypothetical consequences.
According to the review, it starts with Decartes, goes on and on, and then
goes absolutely crazy in our age. A kind of superpower, perhaps?

And apropos a previous book recommendation, my sister-in-law gave me a copy
of "The WEIRDest People in the World" and it's a brick, 680 pages. Must be
an exceptional argument.
