My mom, a devout Catholic worried about the fate of her soul, regularly warned not to speak ill of the dead. But Doug's accusation of assholery against me was, as münecat put it, like "two cats discussing the tragic decline of the bird population and what we can do about it." <https://t.co/WsR5IW5bHA>
But kudos for staying on topic. Dawkins pointing out the inherent ridiculousness of Peterson's psilocybin enhanced introspective "science" reminds me of my friend who's, as we speak, being radicalized. At our last meeting, he told me he "finally got a GETTR account" ... because well, free speech, I guess. 8^| He's a gay Fabian, firmly rooted in Enlightenment Virtues who warns against the TQIA+ but staunchly defends the LGB. [sigh]
I think, for this year's Year-End Giving, I'll buy a bunch of copies of Aaron James' book <https://www.biblio.com/book/assholes-theory-aaron-james/d/1114463195> and leave a copy in every lobby, hotel room, pub, or business I visit. If you can read that and *avoid* diagnosing yourself like some 1st year psych student, then you might be the asshole. >8^D

When Doug shouted onlist "Glen, you can sure be an A**hole sometimes!" he was not wrong, but that said as much about how he *took* your trickster/contrarian style as it was about your intent (or so I surmise, who knows really?). I can't speak for the whole list, but many of us *seem* to thrive on your contrarian style. Even when I think you are *trying* to be mean, it feels more trickster-esque than not... possibly a complete misread on my part, but maybe just what I need? I guess that makes you an "accidental" or "reluctant" tool of sorts (perjorative noted but not intended)?

That could have been appalling, especially the circum-ambulation of the Arc du Triomphe! I was intrigued as much as appalled as I lurched my way through the lurching traffic trying to get to the other side. I felt like a Salmon running upstream to mate, but caught in a maelstrom of sorts. I loved/hated every other vehicle(driver) I saw/encountered in that mass whirlpool (that goes on at different intensities every hour of every day and night of every year?)... you would have loved (and/or hated) it in a completely different way?

The accusation is lobbed at me all the time because I don't enjoy hugs or other sorts of uninvited touching and because I prefer criticism over compliments. But I think the word carries different meanings in different contexts. While I'm not fond of most human organisms, I *am* fond of the structures they create ... their nests (apartments and cities), the fossils from their behaviors (art, books), etc. I'm even fond of their large scale, collective behaviors (like mosh pits and scooter traffic in India). If there's a word for "hates humans but loves humankind", then I'm nearly there.

I'm at risk of being programmed by the text, though. Luckily, I read so slow and comprehend so little, any programming will be buggy: https://youtu.be/2j3adcbEwSM?t=52
