Nick, if by "muck around a bit" you mean create some web content that
you want to be accessible to others, then probably the easiest way to
get started is with a web hosting plan from a web hosting company.
There are many hundreds, if not thousands, of companies to choose
from, and at least as many opinions about them. GoDaddy is one I
believe you originally mentioned. I personally don't like them for a
variety of reasons, especially their high pressure tactics trying to
sell you more than you need or want. I've used BlueHost quite a bit
and think it's a solid choice for about $3-5 a month, depending on how
long a subscription you choose. Beyond that, it's hard to recommend
anything without a clear understanding of what kind of mucking you
want to do :-)
