my post-scarcity techno-utopian material-culture-accumulation preference
would be pipelines of feedstocks of undifferentiated atomic elements
(carbon, silicon, oxygen, hydrogen, iron (and molecular ammonia too?))
and matter assemblers on the scale of a microwave or refrigerator (or
garage) to configure whatever material-culture items my whims demand of
them. Stephenson's /Diamond Age/.
Human "designers" may still be required (or valued) for the step of
distinguishing amongst the leaves of arbitrarily complex possibility
bushes to yield "interesting" ones (in the sense of what an artisan once
did to translate generic concepts like "shoe" or "cooking pot" or
"sailing schooner" into the specific and relevant instantiations of
use/interest to the "customers".
Edge located decompilers would replace trashcans, dumpsters, recycle
bins, landfills and salvage yards and would circularize material
economies at all scales? We can all have Bezos/Zuck class (green
ammonia-powered) mega-yachts with helicopters even if we have to take
turns docking at valued locations? Or play demolition derby with them
as we vie for the scarce docking spaces? (Occupy Coastlines!)
That would be oldSkool ideation... newSkool might be home-built (or
neighborhood scale) space elevators to build minecraft-designed space
platforms out of gathered defunct starlink satellites (and other
space-junk), forming planet-shading scale structures that relieve global
warming while establishing a dyson-sphere patchwork of habitats.
(Occupy GeoSync Orbit!)
Or... (stop me now!)
