[FRIAM] Sleep

Last night I went to check on my nine year old grandson before I went to
sleep.  He was upside down and sideways.  I decided to cover him up but he
seemed to wake up.  Then he acted terrified of me and asked me to go away.
This morning, seven hours later, he crawled into bed with me and seemed
very comfortable.  I asked him about last night, which he remembered, and
he said that he was dreaming and was in alpha sleep.  He said that his his
eyes were working but that his mind wasn't.  Does anyone know what he's
talking about?

Very early in my career I was a coauthor of papers about newborn reactivity
in REM vs NREM sleep.
