I use one very similar to this (with my Android Phone as well as with an 
Android mini-projector).   I also sometimes screencast my phone to my 
WiFi TV...   in principle, your phone becomes a decent substitute for 
your laptop with those two features.

I don't know the specifics for achieving either of these with an iPhone 
but I suspect support for both is there.

Meanwhile I hope your laptop gets back in shape ASAP.
