On an iPhone or iPad one drags from the upper right corner toward the center.  Then click on the two boxes for screen mirroring.   On the TV side an Apple TV box is needed.  These are more expensive than Fire TV dongles, but also better devices IMO.

I use one very similar to this (with my Android Phone as well as with an Android mini-projector).   I also sometimes screencast my phone to my WiFi TV...   in principle, your phone becomes a decent substitute for your laptop with those two features.

I don't know the specifics for achieving either of these with an iPhone but I suspect support for both is there.

Meanwhile I hope your laptop gets back in shape ASAP.
