[FRIAM] Why do flashlights have a black case?

The other day I needed to use my flashlight. But I had misplaced it. It me
thinking: why didn't they glow in the dark? I can probably paint one I was
given in something glow in the dark.
But it just seems like one of the things that'd make more sense if it did
without needing a spray paint.
