Our ten year old grandson probably plays video games too much.  However,
this has benefits. He accesses the games by using a platform called Steam.
I haven't used it but in enables communication among players.  There's a
boy named Lázaro who's about the same age with whom he's been playing for
over a year.  Lázaro lives in Santiago de Chile, the capital.  They play
several times a week and sometimes other kids are on the same server.
Months ago he sadly told Matthew, "I'm fat because I spend my time sitting
and eating and drinking Coke®."  Matthew started preaching to him what he
hears from his grandmother.  Exhortations like "get more exercise", "when
you feel hungry you may just be anxious or bored."  My wife makes sure
everyone in the house eats healthily whether they want to or not.  Lázaro
keeps Matthew informed and recently sent him before and after photos that
show how much weight he's lost.  These guys are very close.  I hope they
meet in person some day.
